Katharine Drexel turned my life upside down.
I never saw myself as a speaker for the missions. To me, mission speakers were always nuns or priests who spoke eloquently about their cause, effortlessly encouraging parishioners to make generous donations.

This weekend we welcome two visiting priests for our weekend Masses. On Saturday at 5 PM, Fr. Al Smith joins us as a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore who lives now in Hagerstown. Some of you may remember Fr. Smith from his service at Saint John the Evangelist in the past. On Sunday morning, Fr. Jerry Francik leads us in worship once again. I am driving down the east coast from New England this weekend, so I will be back in the parish office on Monday morning.
Our summer seminarian Jonathan Gibbons bids us farewell this weekend after an eight-week residency at our parish. He joins the other seminarians of the Archdiocese of Baltimore next week for their annual summer retreat (led this year by Bishop Rozanski) and then he will have a week of vacation with his…
