Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Aug 11, 2019

Our annual Parish Picnic is scheduled for Sunday 8 September (the Sunday after Labor Day) and you may sign up after all weekend Masses starting this weekend. We usually have great weather and several hundred people gathered in Clover Hill Park to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of fall activities, so I hope you and your family will join us this year for this special parish event.

This is the time of year when students are leaving for college, and so we ask God’s blessing on them during their time away from home and pray that they will truly value the educational opportunity that is before them, and grow significantly in wisdom and knowledge and personal maturity during the coming academic year.

If you are an adult Catholic who never completed initiation into the Church through the Sacrament of Confirmation, please take note that we are offering preparation sessions this September to be able to celebrate the sacrament in October. Information about registration is included elsewhere in this bulletin.

It has been reported that parishioners all over the country have been receiving phony e-mails, supposedly from their pastors, asking them to do various things (write back, purchase gifts cards, etc.) In addition, all archdiocesan priests were recently instructed to ignore a fake e-mail from Archbishop Lori. I would never want to give the impression that you should ignore e-mails from me, but please be aware that these scams are occurring, and that if the language sounds a little funny, and the e-mail address is not the one listed in this bulletin (skdpastor@saintdrexel.org), then you should ignore it. The difficulties of life these days!

On Thursday this week, we celebrate the feast of the Assumption as a holyday of obligation, and so I look forward to worshipping with you that day at either 8:30 AM or 7:00 PM Mass. This holyday is always a reminder that summer is winding down.

Fr. Keith
