Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Aug 18, 2019

Last weekend we had our monthly orientation for new parishioners. Once again, people related (as they often do) how they were attracted to our faith community because of the diversity of our parish, and the welcoming spirit they experienced upon visiting for worship. They said they didn’t have the same impression at other parishes they visited while “church shopping”, and so I want to offer special thanks to everyone who is intentionally attentive to creating this spirit of welcome for others.

Faith Formation programs will be starting up next month, and we are in need of some elementary level catechists for our Sunday evening TGIF (Together Growing in Faith) program. If you would be willing to share your faith with our young people in this way, which is so important for the future of the church, contact Theresa Anderson on our parish staff.

The Knights of Columbus fund much of their charitable outreach through their annual golf tournament, taking place on Monday 16 September at Holy Hills. They are taking registration at their table after all Masses through next weekend—so if you play golf, please get your foursome together and sign up! You can also sign up to attend our Parish Picnic (8 September at Clover Hill Park) through next weekend. Remember that we ask you to bring a dish to share.

During our recent Haiti Committee meeting, we spoke by phone with Fr. Faubert, the pastor of our partner-parish in Haiti, Saint Hubert. We try to keep in regular contact with him for updates about his progress. He expressed his appreciation for our continuing commitment to stipend the lay ministers who lead each of his outlying chapels and wanted all of us to know that his parishioners pray for our parish regularly. Based on the success of our upcoming Haiti collection in October, we hope to be able to fulfill the $30,000 pledge we made to assist with their new roof and related church rehabilitation projects.
