October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We will be collecting items to support the work of Heartly House here in Frederick next weekend at the Social Justice display table in the Narthex (and throughout the rest of the month at the Gift Card table.) The list of requested items is on an insert in this bulletin, and on our parish website.
Starting on 5 October, we will be offering all of our children’s ministries (after a summer break) on the first Saturday of the month during the 5:00 PM Mass: Nursery, Children’s Liturgy of the Word and Kates Kids. With enough volunteers, we hope in the future to be able to offer these ministries during the 5:00 PM Mass on a regular basis. Please note that our youth ministry will again be offering childcare for our parish families on the first Saturday of the month from 5:00-9:00 PM. An RSVP is requested to use this service.
We generate funds for our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party through our Holiday Greenery Sale each year. We have had very good responses in the past concerning the quality of the greenery, so please use the form available in this bulletin, or on our website, to be delivered just before Thanksgiving.
Our next Red Cross Blood Drive is coming up on Saturday 12 October from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM in McElroy Hall. You are encouraged to make an appointment to “give the gift of life”, and so please sign up after Mass in the Narthex this weekend and next. We are also offering flu shots (which can be covered by insurance) in conjunction with the Blood Drive.
Friday 4 October is the Feast of Saint Francis, who led the people of his time into a greater reverence for all of God’s creation. In his honor, we will celebrate the annual Blessing of Animals next weekend on Sunday 6 October at 1:30 PM on the church plaza. Please invite your neighbors (of any religion, or none) to bring their pets for a blessing– all are welcome!
