Dear Friends in Christ,

I have some good news to share.  You have been responding in a very generous way during this period when we are unable to celebrate the Eucharist in church, and hence when there is no “passing of the basket.”  Some new people have opted for electronic giving– some are mailing in their church envelopes to the office– and some are dropping their envelopes through the mail slot in the Parish Office door.  In addition, some people have made one-time gifts to help us get through this crisis financially.  It has been so gratifying for me to see your support… and that support is helping our parish tremendously.

But as the cancellation of religious services across the State of Maryland continues to be extended, our Finance Committee knows there will be a deficit this year… and that financial difficulty will no doubt continue into the following fiscal year.  And so, I’m grateful to be able to share more encouraging news with you.  Under the guidance of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, our parish has applied (and been accepted) for an SBA loan from the federal government.  This loan will help us to cover salaries and benefits for a two-month period and is intended to help sustain employment.  This is very helpful at a time when many churches were already considering furloughing or laying off employees.

This loan will be managed through our Finance Committee, and I want to thank our Director of Parish Operations, Pat O’Connor, for the hours she spent preparing the application.  Because the loan program is designed to sustain salaries and benefits for an eight-week period– while we are looking at an indefinite time of closure for our church– your continued support for our parish expenses is crucial.  Hopefully, this loan will help get us through a tight spot and keep our parish staff in place until we can resume more normal operations.

May God bless you and your families during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Fr. Keith
