Holy Thursday – 9 April 2020

Dear Friends in Christ,

This evening we begin the celebration of the Sacred Triduum, the holy three days, with our observance of Holy Thursday.  In the Sacred Triduum, we journey with Jesus… through suffering and death… to new life.  This year in particular, we also remember that Jesus is journeying with us, suffering with us through a pandemic that is touching the whole world, and leading us to the new life we are all yearning for.

I invite you (as individuals or as groups of people at home) to be creative in preserving a sacred space in your life during Holy Week where God’s presence can be experienced, using the time you would have set aside to come to church.  In this e-mail you will find resources for your time of worship at home.  You might:

  • Use the pre-Mass mediation video for quiet prayer.
  • Read this introduction to the celebration of Holy Thursday
  • Join in singing the gathering song: Lift High the Cross
  • Read the scripture readings assigned for this special day.
  • Use the homily included here on video for added inspiration, and discuss (if praying with others).
  • Pray together the Intercessions for this weekend, concluding with the Lord’s Prayer.
  • And conclude with some prayerful time in Eucharistic Adoration (with reflective music.)

The observance of Holy Thursday around the world today recalls the centrality of the Eucharist for us as a faith community.

This time of reflection at home can keep us all united in prayer as the Body of Christ until we can assemble again for the weekly celebration of the Eucharist in our church building.  Welcome to the Sacred Triduum!

Sincerely,

Fr. Keith
