Dear Friends in Christ,

In reflecting upon current events in our country, I began a reflection in my homily last weekend concerning the sin of prejudice, because of the destructive effects discrimination and inequality can have in a society.  Several staff members have continued that conversation through the daily Katharine Konnections this week.  It is so important at this time that we listen to one another with care.  We often sing “The Lord hears the Cry of the Poor” (Psalm 34), acknowledging that as disciples of Jesus, we should do the same.  Let’s pray this weekend for the changing of minds and hearts in our country that will lead to an end of prejudice, and a healing that leads to new life– which can only happen when we do, in fact, hear the cry of those who are experiencing inequality.  Our patron saint Katharine Drexel was canonized for doing just that.

We are continuing this week to live-stream our weekend Mass so that we can be united as we worship, wherever we might be– especially as many parishioners will be able next weekend to return to church while others may not be able (or may not be comfortable).  And so you are invited to click on the following link to join us for our live-streamed weekend Mass each Saturday evenings at 5:00 PM.  You can also join us through our website, or on our YouTube channel.  If you cannot worship with us LIVE at that particular time, this weekend Mass will be available on our YouTube channel any time afterwards for your convenience, especially on Sunday morning.  If you have children in your house and would find a Children’s Liturgy of the Word helpful, please use the video resource here.  Thanks to our children’s leaders who are providing this resource each week.

All eight Catholic parishes in southern Frederick County are resuming public Masses next weekend 13/14 June, most with some kind of modified schedule.  And so we will have Mass next weekend on Saturday at 5:00 PM and on Sunday at 9:00 AM.  Please note that there will be no 11:00 AM Mass next weekend, as we determine the amount of time needed to sanitize the church adequately between Masses.  Because of reduced seating capacity, you are asked to make reservations for the particular Mass you will attend.  Wearing facial coverings is required, and you will want to arrive early to allow for check-in and seating procedures. You can find more ideas about what to expect by clicking on this re-opening information link.

I’ll also be sending an informational video with the Sunday Katharine Konnection tomorrow which will explain some of the new protocols required by Frederick County, the State of Maryland, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore in order for us to open our doors.  Take a look at that before coming to Mass, and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Fr. Keith

Join us for Coffee and Zoom!

Every Sunday from 12:00-12:45 “Coffee and Zoom” is available for online fellowship time.   So, after you have done your “church at home” for the weekend, join our online video conference fellowship time where we can see some familiar friendly faces, catch up with parishioners and staff members, and share a little about how we are managing in this challenging time.  We recommend using a laptop to join, but phones and tablets can also access the gathering.  Once folks have joined the session and we have had a chance to say hello to everyone, we usually break into smaller groups so we can chat with 6-8 other parishioners.  We hope you will join us… it would be great to “see” you again!  If you need the link please contact Brian McCrohan at bmccrohan@saintdrexel.org.
