Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jun 28, 2020

This weekend we welcome into full communion with the Catholic Church Bryan Halterman, Stacey Varga, and Troy Phillips– who celebrated the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the 5:00 PM Mass on Saturday evening.  These sacraments were to be celebrated at the Easter Vigil, which was cancelled during the lockdown. Congratulations to these newest members of the Catholic faith community—and thanks to the dedicated members of the RCIA team who have journeyed with them in preparing for this day!

This Monday morning our children were scheduled to start arriving for Vacation Bible School, an annual summer ritual here that helps children to encounter the joy of knowing Jesus and the Gospel message.   Our Vacation Bible School is another casualty of the COVID-19 restrictions, as we really weren’t sure how to conduct the program safely and without spreading the virus. So we will have to look forward to next summer and hope the children get a double dose then!

With many families across Frederick County losing jobs during the pandemic shutdown, many were unable to eliminate their debt to the FCPS lunch program.  Through special donations we received as a parish, we were able to relieve those families of that lunch debt. This is a tremendous gift we were able to provide for those struggling families, and a note in this bulletin offers thanks for that wonderful generosity.

Our complete schedule of weekend and weekday Masses is now back in place, as well as the regular schedule for Eucharistic Exposition and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  It has taken a LOT of volunteers to facilitate all the protocols required by the Archdiocese, the county and the state for us to re-start weekend worship as safely as possible.  And so, I want to thank all those who have resumed or taken on new roles in this COVID-19 world, for your efforts help all of our parishioners to come to Mass and feel safe!
