Dear Friends in Christ,
This weekend we welcome Fr. Marty Moran to preside at all weekend Masses while I am away. Fr. Moran is a priest of the diocese of Harrisburg PA, and is currently the University Chaplain and Director of Campus Ministry at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg. He has previously served in campus ministry at Wilson College and Bucknell University, and before that ministered in several parishes and high schools in his home diocese. Even though it is more challenging with all the COVID restrictions, please extend our usual SKD warm welcome to him.
The month of July starts a new fiscal year for our parish. Each spring our Pastoral Council discerns parish goals for the new fiscal year, to guide its work and set its agenda– and so these goals for 2020-21 are listed on an insert in the bulletin this week. Contact Pastoral Council President Dennis Ottey (or any of the other Pastoral Council members) if you have questions or comments about the goals for this coming year.
Some have asked about the reason for the distribution the Eucharist at the end of Mass. The goal of social-distancing requires that everyone not leave the nave at the same time. Distributing communion at the very end of Mass allows for a more staggered departure of people from the building. It is certainly not ideal for the flow of the liturgy, and I really do miss greeting everyone after Mass. But we have all been sacrificing for the common good in different ways during these COVID-19 days.
I’m driving back from Cape Cod this weekend, and will be stopping in Springfield MA to visit my step-mother Gloria, as well as my friend Bishop Mitch Rozanski who is leaving Springfield next month to become the new archbishop of Saint Louis MO. I will be back in the office on Monday morning, and all normal weekday Masses will resume this week.
P.S. Please take a moment to review other information concerning our parish and it’s gradual re-opening by clicking here for the weekly bulletin.
UPCOMING Zoom sessions:
Coffee and Zoom
This is a time to simply chat with other parishioners, just like we used to do after Mass. Available every Sunday on Zoom at 12:00. Contact Brian McCrohan for a link to join.
Centering Prayer – now on Zoom!
We will be resuming our weekly Centering Prayer group beginning on Sunday July 12th at 4:30 on zoom. This opportunity for prayer focus on the practice of Christian silent centering prayer, to deepen our relationship with God and one another. In a time when our lives have been disrupted in a number of ways and anxiety is high, this is a great opportunity to experience some peace and benefit from some stillness. For more information contact Amy Kulesa at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Join us every Thursday at 7:00 PM for a weekly scripture study through Zoom focusing on the readings for the upcoming weekend. This type of scripture study gives us the chance to unpack and reflect upon the readings before we arrive at Mass, thus allowing us to benefit even more from our experience of hearing God’s Word. For more information contact Deacon Kevin Kulesa at email@example.com.
