Our Social Activities calendar for the year is included in the bulletin this weekend. Because of current restrictions on group gatherings, it’s sad that many activities are cancelled, and some are postponed. We did want to find some way to celebrate the end of summer in place of our usual Parish Picnic, and so we are planning an outdoor Movie Night (with refreshments) behind the school building on Saturday 19 September. Bring your blankets and chairs, and social-distance on the lawn! We’ll have to see how the pandemic goes before making decisions about events in the new year.
As I mentioned here last weekend, parish projects such as the completion of the Kate’s Kids room “Creation” mural have been continuing during the pandemic. You’ll see on the front cover of the bulletin this week an update on the new iconography that is being prepared for the worship space. We have finally completed the design process, and now the artist will need several months to execute the plans. This was made possible through the gracious generosity of many parishioners in response to the recent “Finishing Touches” campaign.
With the present world-wide COVID-19 crisis, institutions everywhere are struggling to figure out how to plan programs that are safe while continuing to further their mission. Faith Formation (“forming loving disciples”) is at the core of our mission as a parish. Our parish staff has decided to introduce a new virtual family faith formation program on Sunday evenings this fall, replacing the former TGIF (Together Growing in Faith) program. I’m told you will enjoy the creativity of the program. Please see an insert in the bulletin this weekend for more information and register by visiting our parish website (www.saintdrexel.org).
