Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Oct 4, 2020

October is celebrated nationally as “Respect Life” month.  Pope Francis has regularly stressed that all members of the Church can bring healing to the world by upholding the beauty of human life, as well as by sharing God’s unfailing mercy with others in a variety of ways. Thanks to those who are participating in the local 40 Days for Life program, as well as the Life Chain along Route 40 this weekend.

We usually schedule a Red Cross Blood Drive in our parish during October as another way of observing Respect Life month.  The only space large enough to accommodate this event is the school gym, and we are currently not using any school spaces as a way to allow the school to function without worrying about outsiders contaminating surfaces with COVID-19.  The need for donated blood is always real, and so we have included information in the bulletin about using the Donation Center which is very close to our campus.

Our current practice of distributing communion at the end of Mass was started in June as a way to allow parishioners to leave Mass in a staggered, and therefore safer, manner.  Starting next weekend, we will return to distributing communion at the normal time, and having the ushers guide people in leaving church one-pew-at-a-time at the end of Mass.  Like opening the regular restrooms last weekend, this will allow something else to return to “normal”, while also allowing time after communion for private prayer, as well as important events like wedding anniversary blessings. Please cooperate with the ushers in guiding your exit from the pews at the conclusion of Mass so that we still retain a staggered and safer departure.

Please note two events for this coming Monday.  Via Zoom, a discussion of the US Bishops document “Faithful Citizenship” will occur at 7:00 PM, and a virtual Marriage Encounter retreat will begin on this date also.  More information about both of these enriching events is included elsewhere in the bulletin.
