       The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Ash Wednesday occurs this week and the holy Season of Lent begins. We are all invited to be marked with ashes at Masses at 8:30 AM and 7:00 PM that day.  This Lent, as we move into the second year of the pandemic, we are consoled and given hope by the divine promise “I will raise you up.”

Because of limited Mass attendance capacity, we have mailed the “Little Black Book” to all registered households for your private meditation at home. Please consult the bulletin insert for information concerning the Jesuit tradition of the “Daily Examen,” which we encourage individuals and families to pray at home during this Lent.  There will also be virtual sessions.

Each Friday evening a variety of Lenten prayer experiences are scheduled in the church at 7:00 PM. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, the simple soup and bread meal will not be possible this year. Rise Bowls are available to be picked up for use at home.  Please note that all Lenten prayer opportunities will be listed on a purple insert in the bulletin each week.

Our contributions to the Poor Box (along with five other neighboring Catholic parishes) provide the funding for the ministry of our regional conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society (located at St. John the Evangelist in downtown Frederick).  Included in the bulletin is a financial report I recently received. The report delineates the use of those funds in assisting the poor in our area, and I want to thank those who share in this ministry through your financial support.

A sacramental preparation class for students in grades 6-12 who wish to celebrate either the Sacrament of Baptism or make their First Communion will be starting this month and the registration deadline is this weekend.  Please consult the bulletin for more details and contact information for registering.

As we celebrate World Marriage Day, it is so inspiring to see the couples (on the bulletin insert) who are married 50 and 55 and 60 years.  Congratulations!

Teen Sacramental Preparation

Classes will begin soon for teens in grades 6 -12 who have not celebrated the sacrament of Baptism or made their First Communion. If you have a student who would like to begin this preparation, register by 14 February!  For more information please contact Ana Maria Alvarado in the parish office.

Zoom Sessions this Week

Centering Prayer This practice of contemplative prayer helps us draw our attention from the ordinary flow of thoughts to an inner silence receptive to the presence of God.

Every Sunday at 4:30 PM

Scripture Study – Join us for a weekly scripture study through Zoom focusing on the readings for the upcoming weekend.  This type of scripture study gives us the chance to unpack and reflect upon the readings before we arrive at Mass, thus allowing us to benefit even more from our experience of hearing God’s Word.

Every Thursday at 7:00 PM
