       The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Welcome to the holy season of Lent. This year we are invited to trust more fully in the promise of Jesus: “I will raise you up.” We can become mired in the tumult of the world, and the turmoil of our own lives, and the constricting effects of the pandemic and begin to lose hope about the future. But Jesus promises to always be with us, and with him we can be raised above the din of our world and our lives.

During Lent you are invited to begin the practice of the “Daily Examen” promoted by St. Ignatius of Loyola (more info on a bulletin insert) and to make use of the “Little Black Books” that were mailed to all registered households.  Rice Bowls are available for your family to increase in solidarity with the poor during this holy season.  Lenten Fridays offer an opportunity each week to join in prayer, and a Lenten Bible Study is beginning this week.  Our Adult Faith Formation Committee is pleased to present a Zoom Mini-Retreat next Saturday morning at 10:00 AM to start the Lenten season.  After you register on our parish website, you will receive the link for the retreat.

Our Katie’s Ladies group is coordinating a project to assist those who have recently completed their time and been released from jail as they return to life in our community.  Toiletry items and monetary donations will be collected until next weekend in the church narthex and the parish office vestibule, and the list of requested items in on our parish website.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries at Mass last weekend.  As you can see in this bulletin, we have already reached 16% of our goal and a weekly report will keep you updated on our progress toward our goal.  Please use the mailing you received at home (or an envelope available in the church narthex and parish office vestibule) if you were not at Mass last weekend.

Our next parish trip will be to Norway, so check out the bulletin insert if you’d like to join us in 2022.

Parish Lenten Opportunities

This Thursday at 7:00 PM will be our first Zoom Weekly Examen.  Gather together with fellow parishioners to share the ways that God has raised you up during the week and the ways that life has brought you down.  This is a great way to take our personal daily examen practice and deepen it while supporting each other in community.

Every Thursday at 7:00 PM

Our virtual Lenten Mini-Retreat will be Saturday 27 February from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  Led by Amy Kulesa and members of our Adult Faith Formation Committee, this will be a great opportunity for prayer and reflection with other parishioners as we start off this season.  There is no cost for the retreat, but we do ask that you RSVP here.

Zoom Sessions this Week

Centering Prayer This practice of contemplative prayer helps us draw our attention from the ordinary flow of thoughts to an inner silence receptive to the presence of God.

Every Sunday at 4:30 PM

Scripture Study – Join us for a weekly scripture study through Zoom focusing on the readings for the upcoming weekend.  This type of scripture study gives us the chance to unpack and reflect upon the readings before we arrive at Mass, thus allowing us to benefit even more from our experience of hearing God’s Word.

Every Thursday at 7:00 PM
