       The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

The Season of Lent is a good opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  An examination of conscience assists us in remembering the compassion God has for us, and the lack of compassion we may have, at times, for those around us.  Because of Covid-19 pandemic concerns, there are no Regional Reconciliation Services planned for this Lent.  However, we have scheduled two additional times for individual confession in church this week (listed in the bulletin) to facilitate the celebration of this sacrament.

It has been a parish tradition on Palm Sunday weekend to have our annual Easter Egg Hunt and our annual Passover Seder Meal.  Because it is an outdoor activity with room for social-distancing, we are able to have the Easter Egg Hunt, but the Seder Meal has been cancelled.  Please register for the Easter Egg Hunt using the form on our parish website by this Monday.

The Unity Campaign in Frederick each year supports non-profit agencies who assist our most vulnerable neighbors.  One of those non-profits is our own St. Vincent de Paul Society, who can be chosen as a recipient of your donation.  Please consider this option when contributing to the Unity Campaign this month.  A bulletin insert this week provides a contribution form for your convenience.

During our monthly telephone calls with Fr. Faubert, the pastor of our partner parish in Haiti, we are always reminded that the parishioners there pray for all of us.  We have included a “Prayer for Haiti” as a bulletin insert this week, so that we, too, can pray for the parishioners of Saint Hubert parish in Haiti.

With more people being vaccinated, our Mass attendance is increasing.  While Governor Hogan recently raised the seating capacity for churches, the state guidelines still mandate social-distancing—a restriction which doesn’t really allow us to increase our permitted capacity.  The Archdiocese has stated that we will be receiving new guidelines shortly.

Parish Lenten Opportunities

Every Thursday during Lent at 7:00 PM will be our Zoom Weekly Examen.  Gather together with fellow parishioners to share the ways that God has raised you up during the week and the ways that life has brought you down.  This is a great way to take our personal daily examen practice and deepen it while supporting each other in community.

Every Thursday at 7:00 PM

Zoom Sessions this Week

Centering Prayer This practice of contemplative prayer helps us draw our attention from the ordinary flow of thoughts to an inner silence receptive to the presence of God.

Every Sunday at 4:30 PM

Scripture Study – Join us for a weekly scripture study through Zoom focusing on the readings for the upcoming weekend.  This type of scripture study gives us the chance to unpack and reflect upon the readings before we arrive at Mass, thus allowing us to benefit even more from our experience of hearing God’s Word.

Every Thursday at 7:00 PM
