       The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

This weekend we are acknowledging our partnership with our sister-parish, St. Hubert (in Ennery, Haiti) with a pre-Mass talk, in conjunction with additional bulletin information and recently issued Katharine Konnections.  We have been faithful to our parish commitment to funding the stipends of lay ministers who coordinate the pastoral life of the outlying missions of St. Hubert, and we are currently investigating the possibility of tuition assistance for high school students from our partner parish.  Thanks for your generous support of our 2nd collection for Haiti next weekend.

Fr. Kevin Farmer, the pastor of neighboring St. John the Evangelist Church in downtown Frederick, announced that he will be leaving Frederick this July for a new assignment.  This occasioned several questions from parishioners concerning whether I had been contacted about a change of assignment. Usually, when you are as close to retirement age as I am, the Personnel Board has mercy on you and doesn’t ask you to pack up all your things and move. And so, be assured that I have heard nothing about a change….

You’ll notice that we are currently at 83% of goal for the Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries.  We designate funds from our rebate to assist Saint Michael’s Indian School (in Arizona) and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, both of whom are founded by our patron Saint Katharine Drexel—as well as assist our partner-parish Saint Hubert in Haiti and our own parish outreach to immigrants.  If your envelope is still on your desk at home, please help us reach our goal!  Envelopes are also available at the second check-in table in the narthex.

Each weekend at Mass I see parishioners that I have not seen for a year because of the pandemic.  As more people are vaccinated, they seem more comfortable returning to worship.  It is great to see you again, and it is such a pleasure to say, “welcome home!”

Zoom Sessions this Week

Centering Prayer This practice of contemplative prayer helps us draw our attention from the ordinary flow of thoughts to an inner silence receptive to the presence of God.

Every Sunday at 4:30 PM

Scripture Study – Join us for a weekly scripture study through Zoom focusing on the readings for the upcoming weekend.  This type of scripture study gives us the chance to unpack and reflect upon the readings before we arrive at Mass, thus allowing us to benefit even more from our experience of hearing God’s Word.
