As we continue the 50-day celebration of the Easter season, we are treated to events at Mass that we fasted from during the season of Lent. Please rejoice with me as we celebrate special occasions in the life of our parish families, such as baptisms and first communions. It is clearly a joyful time in the life of many of our parishioners as they come into fuller union with Christ through the Sacraments. The inspiring testimony of Wayne Rogers, given when he celebrated the Initiation Sacraments at the Easter Vigil last weekend, is included as a bulletin insert.
Each summer our parish co-sponsors a softball team (along with Saint John the Evangelist) in the Frederick County Church Softball League. This is a great way to get to know not only other parishioners, but also people from other churches in Frederick Co. Practice has begun, and the season starts 2 May, so if you would like to join the team, please contact Bob Eaton (using the information found in the bulletin).
We count on the Easter collection to help balance the budget at this point in the fiscal year, so thanks so much for your generosity at Easter—which surpassed last Easter! I’m also so grateful for your faithful support of the monthly mortgage collection which is now adequately handling our payment each month.
This would normally be the weekend when we hold our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and present the Kate Awards, highlighting the dedicated service of our parishioners. Part of the sadness of the pandemic has been the suspension of all social activities, which have been such an important part of our life as a faith community over the years. This will be the second (and hopefully the last!) time this event is cancelled. We have recruited more volunteers to maintain our worship and ministries during the pandemic—for instance new ushers—and so I want to express our appreciation to all of our volunteers—even though we aren’t able to have a party at this time in your honor!
