       The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

The impact of Covid-19 over the past year has raised questions like “Will we have that event… or not?” and “If so, how?”  That has been the question we have been asking ourselves here over the past several months about Vacation Bible School (VBS).  But as you can see in the bulletin this week, VBS is “ON” for a week in July.  To register as a participant or a volunteer, please visit our website.

Over the years our faith community has always responded generously to those in need.  I couldn’t help but notice in the bulletin this week that there are three “thank you” messages.  Our Katies Ladies group is grateful for donations to their Lazarus Project; the Knights of Columbus are appreciative for the support of their Tootsie Roll Campaign; and the Haiti Committee is so thankful for your recent offering for the Haiti Fund.  Allow me to add my “thanks” to all of theirs for your generosity!

I am always grateful for the time to read and reflect while I am away, and had the opportunity to explore several books recently that dealt with the issues of family conflict, apartheid, migration, racism, and prejudice concerning ethnicity and sexual orientation.  These included Trevor Noah’s “Born a Crime”, Ocean Vuong’s “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous”, and Jeanine Cummins’ “American Dirt”.  Some were challenging to read, but all offered profound insights about life and love.

I had not planned this, but mothers played a key role in all three books– which is so appropriate as we celebrate Mother’s Day weekend.  And so, we acknowledge the gift of our mothers (both living and deceased) and pray that God may bless them with peace and happiness, in return for the selfless love they have so generously shared with their children over many years.  Happy Mother’s Day!

Zoom Sessions this Week

Centering Prayer This practice of contemplative prayer helps us draw our attention from the ordinary flow of thoughts to an inner silence receptive to the presence of God.

Every Sunday at 4:30 PM

Scripture Study – Join us for a weekly scripture study through Zoom focusing on the readings for the upcoming weekend.  This type of scripture study gives us the chance to unpack and reflect upon the readings before we arrive at Mass, thus allowing us to benefit even more from our experience of hearing God’s Word.
