Fifth Sunday of Easter

May 2, 2021

The need for blood donations has not declined during the pandemic, and so we are scheduling our usual spring Blood Drive next month on Saturday 12 June to support the efforts of the American Red Cross to provide for this need.  Please sign up for your appointment time on our parish website.  Another time-saving measure is to pre-register with the Red Cross by completing the RAPIDPass to provide your health history.  A bulletin insert this weekend offers more information.

Here’s an exciting development– the Catholic parishes of southern Frederick County have decided to jointly sponsor one of the family suites at the new permanent emergency family shelter being developed on Hayward Road by the Religious Coalition (here in our parish boundaries).  To pay our portion of the pledge, we will schedule a special second collection each year until we have fulfilled our commitment.  Please be generous to the homeless families in our area next weekend in this second collection.

We are trying to manage the limitations of seating at Mass (due to social distancing) through our website Mass sign-up process (so that we do not have to turn people away at the door), but increasing numbers of people sign up for Mass and then do not actually show up. This is unfortunate when the Mass sign-up fills, because it prohibits others from attending who want to come.  Understandably, unexpected things happen to all of us, but we ask you to please only sign up for Mass if you really intend to be there.  Thanks for your cooperation.

This weekend our team in the Frederick County Summer Softball Church League plays its first game.  After experiencing a pandemic, the idea of summer softball just seems comforting.  I hope your spring- time weeding and planting at home is going well!
