       The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Each post-pandemic step that we take in restoring rituals and activities that were temporarily suspended helps us to realize that life is getting back to normal. In the bulletin you will see information from the local bishops lifting the general dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass in person (as of the last weekend in June) that was put in place when the pandemic started.  While plans are not finalized, we will continue in some way to livestream at least one weekend Mass for our parishioners who are homebound—and we look forward to welcoming everyone else back to church in person for our weekly celebration of the Eucharist as the Body of Christ!

You may have noticed the good news last weekend in the mortgage report that with your generous support we were able to make an extra mortgage payment.  More good news was that, as of 1 June, our interest rate was lowered from 4% to 3.5%.  As I mentioned before, this has allowed us to shift the proceeds from our fundraisers (raffle, gift cards, etc.) to the future development of our Memorial Garden & Columbarium.

As our ministries start up once again, it often requires the recruitment of new volunteers, and so I ask you to be attentive to the ministry needs which will be listed regularly in the bulletin.  There is a new altar server training scheduled for next Saturday for students who will be in grades 5-12 (next fall), so we ask young people to help us in this way if you can.

One of our second collections each month is for the Frederick County Parish Tuition Assistance Fund, an inter-parish cooperative venture that awards tuition assistance to families of participating parishes for Catholic School tuition based on financial need.  The first awards were made for academic year 2015-16, and you will see on a bulletin insert this weekend that over $1 million dollars has now been awarded from this fund to qualifying families!  Many thanks to all those who support this second collection each month.

Zoom Sessions this Week

Centering Prayer This practice of contemplative prayer helps us draw our attention from the ordinary flow of thoughts to an inner silence receptive to the presence of God.

Every Sunday at 4:30 PM

Scripture Study – Join us for a weekly scripture study through Zoom focusing on the readings for the upcoming weekend.  This type of scripture study gives us the chance to unpack and reflect upon the readings before we arrive at Mass, thus allowing us to benefit even more from our experience of hearing God’s Word.

Every Thursday at 7:00 PM
