       The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

For the last several months, as more and more people were vaccinated, more and more people felt comfortable returning to weekend Mass.  Week after week I have been greeting people after Mass saying things like, “I haven’t seen you in over a year!”  So many parishioners have expressed their gratitude for being able to stay connected to their parish through the live-streaming of Mass and the Katherine Konnections emails… but are even more grateful for being able to return to public worship in person to pray and receive the Eucharist in the midst of a community of faith. Gradually, the pandemic restrictions have been eliminated as vaccinations went up and the positivity rate went down.  Our weekly attendance at Mass has returned to about 2/3 of pre-pandemic numbers prior to this weekend when the general dispensation from the obligation of attending Mass in person is being lifted.  It has been such a joy to see our faith community coming to life again!

Frederick County has some long-time pastors bidding farewell to their parishes this weekend as they head for new assignments on 1 July.  Fr. Kevin Farmer is leaving Saint John the Evangelist for a parish in Baltimore County, and Fr. Michael Jendrek is leaving St. Ignatius (Ijamsville) for a parish in Anne Arundel County.  We thank them for their friendship with our parish, and for their dedicated priestly ministry to the Catholic Community in our area over many years.

Last weekend eight young people participated in altar server training.  We are very grateful to them and to Lisa Wrzesinski who coordinated the training.

As you will see in the bulletin, we have now reached 113% of our parish goal in the Annual Appeal.  Many thanks to those who have pushed us over goal, as we receive a 50% rebate of all funds over goal—at this point almost $5,000—which will be a great help in the development of our new parish Memorial Garden and Columbarium!
