Just as two of our neighboring parishes were saying farewell last weekend to their longtime pastors, this weekend they are welcoming their new pastors. We, too, welcome to the area Fr. John Williamson as the new pastor of Saint John the Evangelist in Frederick, and Fr. Patrick Carrion as the new pastor of St. Ignatius of Loyola in Ijamsville. The parishes of southern Frederick County work collaboratively in various areas of ministry, and so we value the experience and dedication that each of these new pastors brings to Frederick County.
We have been blessed for many years as a faith community with a talented team of pastoral associates who are very dedicated to their ministry. For all of us, I express deep appreciation to Brian McCrohan, Ana Maria Alvarado, Theresa Anderson, and Alexis Zabsonre for their generous service to our faith community throughout the past year, especially in responding to all the challenges posed by the pandemic. A listing of ministry responsibilities for the coming year is included this week as a bulletin insert so that you know who to contact for various programs.
Due to the efforts of Sherry Snyder, we have been offering some social activities this summer to celebrate the lessening of Covid-19 restrictions. Thanks to all who helped with our outdoor Family Movie Night last weekend—and you will want to mark your calendar for our upcoming Concert on the Plaza scheduled for the end of July (information is on a bulletin insert).
July 4th is celebrated annually in our country as “Independence Day”, and this weekend we remember the freedom we are supposed to enjoy as Americans. We have become aware in recent times that not all Americans experience freedom and opportunity in the same way. As Christians, we know and believe that all of God’s children are loved equally by God. We are invited by Jesus to love as God loves—and we can best honor this holiday by pledging to do so. “Happy 4th!”
