The Katharine Konnection

Youth Programs and Various Updates

Hello SKD Family,

It has been a great summer, and today I hope all FCPS students had a wonderful first day. I pray that all of you have an amazing year.

While this summer has been much more active than last year we definitely have had our ups and downs and I pray that our country continues the fight against this pandemic. In order to help keep the spread down in our community, Saint Katharine Drexel will offer a Vaccination Clinic  with the Health Department on Sunday August 29, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 1:00PM in McElroy Hall.  The Health Department will offer the Pfizer Vaccine and the J&J vaccine.  If you opt for the Pfizer, a follow up for the 2nd dose will be given 21 days later on Sunday Sept. 19, 2021 from 10:00AM – 1:00PM.  No need to sign up, just stop by.  This vaccination clinic is for anyone over the age of 12 (although teens ages 12-17 will only be offered the Pfizer Vaccine). Feel free to let friends and family know even if they are not SKD parishioners. All are welcome!

Summer is almost over, but we have one more youth ministry event coming up this weekend for all middle schoolers. All middle schoolers (grades 6th – 8th) are welcome to join is for “Middle School Regional Fun Night”. Join us for a fun day at Antietam rec on Saturday evening 21 August from 5 – 9PM. To register please go to https://www.osvhub.com/stannchurchhagerstown/forms/middle-school-night-at-antietam-rec. Cost is $12. If you are an adult who would like to chaperone for this event or have additional questions please contact me. All Adult volunteers must be Virtus certified by the day of the event in order to volunteer. Space is still available.

As we close up the summer we now are starting a new catechetical year. This means the start of our faith formation programs which will began in the fall. If you have not yet register for faith formation please consider doing so. You can register here. Parishioners need one full year of faith formation prior to signing up for a sacramental preparation program (First communion or Confirmation) and  will also need to sign up for a faith formation program the year that they begin their sacramental preparation program. Parishioners currently attending a Catholic school can count their Catholic school education as their faith formation, but must register for sacramental preparation separately as catholic schools do not prepare for sacraments in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Because students can receive their faith formation from a variety of sources (please contact us if you have questions about approved faith formation programs), we separate sacramental preparation (preparing for first communion or confirmation) from our faith formation programs.
