This weekend we welcome Fr. Michael McDermott to preside at weekend Masses while I am out-of-town at a 50th wedding anniversary. Fr. Mike has recently retired from parish ministry in Nebraska. He is serving as part-time chaplain at Saint John’s Catholic Prep, and also visiting the Catholic patients at Frederick Health Hospital, in addition to assisting with Masses in area parishes.
Thanks to everyone who worked together last Sunday on our parish picnic in Cloverhill park—with special gratitude to our Knights of Columbus and scouts. It was a beautiful afternoon (as usual!) and it was great to be able to get together and socialize in this way, remembering that the pandemic cancelled our annual picnic and so many other activities last year.
We have scheduled special sacramental classes in October for children ages 7-11 who wish to prepare to celebrate the sacrament of Baptism. The classes are for parents and their children—please check the bulletin insert this weekend for registration information.
Sessions are also starting this month for families who wish to prepare their children to celebrate the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist during the coming year. Please notice that it is an Archdiocesan regulation that children must be participating in regular faith formation classes for at least one year prior to starting special preparation for sacraments.
For many years we have been offering a “Ministry Fair” each September to acquaint our parishioners with the many ways they can become involved in their faith community. Because of the large number of ministries that function in our parish, it has become very crowded in the narthex during recent Ministry Fairs. This fall we will instead be having four smaller fairs (organized around themes in our parish Mission Statement), the second of which is next weekend when “Community Building” Ministries will be featured. Please stop by to peruse the displays after all Masses.
