Advent Opportunities

Dear Parishioners,

With the season of Advent just begun, I wanted to bring to your attention a few adult formation opportunities to help you get into the season.

Meet Your Creche: A Spiritual Practice, Thursdays, December 2 & 9, 7:00pm-8:30pm led by John Shea on Zoom

Acclaimed theologian John Shea will lead two evenings of reflection on the season of Advent.  In the first session we will listen to the wisdom and beauty of the angels, shepherds, and the Wise Men.  In the second session we will listen to the wisdom and beauty of Joseph, Mary, and the child.

Registration fee: $15.00 per session or free-will offering. To register, send your name, preferred email address and phone number to sacreddoorwaysnj@gmail.com.

Stations of the Creche: Sunday December 5, 5:30-7:00PM, Media Center in Saint John Regional School

Join with other parishioners as we prayerfully experience the beginning of Jesus’ story from the annunciation through to epiphany drawing moments from the film The Nativity Story to lead us.  Modeled after the stations of the cross, this prayer opportunity allows us to enter into the story of Jesus’ coming in a unique way.

Luke’s Infancy Narrative: Sunday December 12, 5:30-7:00PM, Media Center in Saint John Regional School, Led by Leo Zanchettin

We’re all familiar with the basic Christmas story: the shepherds, the angels, the Virgin Mother and of course the Christ Child. But there’s another character who doesn’t usually get much attention: St. Luke, the gospel writer who gave us this story in the first place. Join us for an exploration of Luke’s telling of the birth of the Savior. We’ll look at the story behind Luke’s story and ask what messages Luke might have for us today.

I hope you will be able to take advantage of these opportunities to deepen your experience of the season.
