Fr. Keith’s Korner

On Sunday night this weekend, the children of our parish will treat us to an “Almost Christmas” Pageant and lead us into the spirit of the season of Christ’s birth.  We thank all the children who are participating, as well as Margaret Moos and her other assistants for their dedication in preparing this annual presentation for our parish.

In order to pray at home as a family during the holidays– beyond grace before meals– you might think about gathering together at the Christmas manger for a blessing.  We’ve included an insert in the bulletin this weekend to assist you with this prayer at home.

All students are reminded to obtain an application form from Pat O’Connor in the Parish Office if you plan to submit a Drexel Essay Contest entry by the January deadline. A $1000 college scholarship and a $500 high school scholarship (also applicable to college expenses) are awarded each year to two of our young parishioners based on these essays about our patron Saint Katharine Drexel.  The application form is also available on our parish website.

When planning your family Christmas activities, please consider attending our 9:00 PM Christmas Eve Mass.  Several years ago, we moved the time back to

9:00 PM, hoping to lure some people away from the very crowded 4:00 PM Mass.  Perhaps coming to Mass after dinner later in the evening could make it special and become a new family tradition for you?

Our Finance Committee always counts on a good Christmas collection to keep our budget balanced– and so, thanks, in advance, for sharing generously with your parish in this special season.  May you experience God’s blessing and Christ’s love as you celebrate with family and friends this year.  Thanks for making our faith community an important part of your life.

I will see you soon as we assemble to celebrate Christ’s birth—and if you are leaving Frederick and travelling for the holidays…“Merry Christmas!”
