First Sunday of Lent

Mar 6, 2022

Welcome to the holy season of Lent!  As a faith community, we are reflecting this year on the difficult times we all experience in life, often occasioned because of the challenges we face—and how this can leave us feeling very much alone and in darkness.  When we unify ourselves more fully with the divine, however, God’s love can “Enlighten Our Hearts” and dispel the darkness that surrounds us.

This Lent we can put our struggles into God’s hands by writing our own “dark moments of the soul” on a slip of paper and placing it in the box at the base of the cross near the holy water fountains.  (An online option is also available on the parish website.) At the end of Lent, these papers will be burned at the Easter Vigil in the new fire that lights the Paschal Candle—symbolically transforming our dark nights by the light of Christ’s resurrection.

To continue our celebration of the Archdiocesan “Year of the Eucharist” we will be offering resource material each week (through the bulletin and online Katharine Konnections) in the form of articles and videos to deepen your understanding and experience of the Mass.  A richer experience of worship can deepen our inner joy and promote a fuller relationship with God.  We hope you will make use of these resources during this special season of Lent.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries at Mass last weekend.  As you can see in this bulletin, we have already reached 27% of our goal and a weekly report will keep you updated on our progress toward our goal.  Please use the mailing you received at home (or an envelope available in the church narthex and parish office) if you were not at Mass last weekend.

It has been so sad to see the struggle and suffering of the people of Ukraine… and inspiring to see their resistance and resilience.  We continue pray for peace– and courage for all leaders to do what is right and just.
