As we continue the 50-day celebration of the Easter season, we are treated to events at Mass that we fasted from during the season of Lent. Please rejoice with me as we celebrate special occasions in the life of our parish families, such as baptisms and first communions. It is clearly a joyful time in the life of many of our parishioners as they come into fuller union with Christ through the Sacraments. The inspiring testimony of Marlaina Blank, given when she celebrated the Initiation Sacraments at the Easter Vigil last weekend, is included as a bulletin insert.
It is hard to believe that it has been two years since our last Sunday morning coffee and donuts social time. This is a clear indication of the effect of the pandemic on our communal life. (I suppose one benefit is that I ate 104 less donuts over those two years…) Our thanks to Patti Jennings for taking on the task of coordinating our volunteers for this weekly social. Hopefully we will also be able to resume our Saturday night “Holy Spirits” socials (which were occurring after the 5:00 PM Mass) sometime in the future.
Pandemic restrictions also halted our regional ministry of Eucharistic Ministers from various parishes bringing communion to patients in Frederick Health Hospital. The hospital is now allowing this ministry to resume, and a Saturday morning training session is being scheduled for June by the Pastoral Care Department. If you sense the Lord calling you to this ministry to the sick, please contact me so that I can register you for the training. So many have testified in the past to how much they have grown spiritually by being involved in this Eucharistic ministry.
We count on the Easter collection to help balance the budget at this point in the fiscal year, so thanks so much for your generosity in the Easter collection! I’m also so grateful for your faithful support of the monthly mortgage collection which is now adequately handling our payment each month.
