The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Fr. Keith will be attending a conference this week and Fr. Mike will be celebrating Daily Mass on Monday (10:30 AM) and Friday (6:30 AM).  There will be no Tuesday Mass this week.

Fr. Keith’s Korner

“Environmental Stewardship” is one of the newest ministries to develop under our Social Justice Committee.  As a result of their efforts, there is now an “Adopt-a-Road” sign posted along Opossumtown Pike, acknowledging that our parish performs a quarterly clean-up to help the environment.  Thanks to Trish Bodine for spearheading this effort, which is detailed on the bulletin cover this weekend.

One of our second collections each month is for the Frederick County Parish Tuition Assistance Fund, an inter-parish cooperative venture that awards tuition assistance to families of participating parishes for Catholic School tuition based on financial need.  The first awards were made for academic year 2015-16, and you will see on a bulletin insert this weekend that well over $1 million dollars has been awarded from this fund to qualifying families!  Many thanks to all those who support this second collection each month.

Last summer we piloted our first “Concert on the Plaza” which resulted in a great turnout on a relaxing summer evening after the Saturday 5:00 PM Mass.  This year we are planning a concert in June, July, and August, and the first will be next Saturday night.  Chick-fil-a sandwiches and salads will be available after Mass, along with wine, beer, and other drinks, and the concert will begin at 6:45 PM.  Bring your folding chair… and hope to see you there!

Each year we have a second collection on “World Mission Sunday” to support the work of missionaries around the world in spreading the good news of the gospel, and a “thank you” note is posted in the bulletin this week.  Like the Annual Appeal, this is one more way our parish shows its concern for the wider church.

This weekend we have the occasion to say “thank you” to all fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, and foster fathers—and so, for all of your love, and your support, and your care over the years, we say “Happy Father’s Day”!
