Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jul 17, 2022

This weekend we welcome Fr. Michael McDermott to preside at weekend (and weekday) Masses while I am away.  Fr. Mike is a retired priest from Nebraska who now lives with his sister here in Frederick.  He is currently serving as chaplain at Saint John’s Catholic Prep, and visiting Catholic patients at Frederick Health Hospital, in addition to assisting with Masses in area parishes.

News from the parish cruise: For the past week, after visiting Oslo, we have been cruising along the coastline of Norway and exploring scenic fjords—God’s creation is amazingly beautiful! This weekend we have returned to Amsterdam where some of us are attending a once-every-ten-year European horticultural expo called “Floriade.”  The focus of this decade’s Expo is how to create more green and sustainable cities. On Monday we will resume our tour of the majestic coastline and fjords of Norway.

Our faith formation programs for next fall are now open for registration on our parish website—so please help us to get organized by registering as soon as possible.  It takes some effort to recruit and train catechists, and books have to be ordered, so we appreciate your cooperation!  Remember that faith formation is a life-long endeavor, and our programs are open to all ages.

The next summer “concert on the plaza” will be this coming Saturday evening, featuring the Northside Blues and Rock Band.  This band has the blessing of having two of our parishioners: Mike Nunez and Tom Pianta.  This time there will be food trucks available!  So, plan to stay after the 5:00 PM Mass, bring your lawn chairs, and enjoy a relaxing evening on the plaza.

A few years ago Pope Francis said: “We need to participate for the common good … good Catholics immerse themselves in politics”. Make sure you make it to the polls this Tuesday for the Primary election!

Fr. Keith
