The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Thanks to everyone who worked together last Sunday on our parish picnic in Cloverhill park—with special gratitude to our Knights of Columbus and scouts.  It was a beautiful afternoon (unlike the Sunday before!) and it was great to be able to get together and socialize in this way as a community of faith at the beginning of the fall season.

Tuesday 4 October is the Feast of Saint Francis, who led the people of his time into a greater reverence for all of God’s creation. In his honor, we will celebrate the annual Blessing of Animals next weekend on Sunday 2 October at 1:30 PM on the plaza in front of church.  As a means of evangelization, please invite your friends or neighbors (of any religion, or none) to bring their pets for a blessing– all are welcome!

We are first touched by the power of the Holy Spirit of God in the Sacrament of Baptism, and then life-long Catholics typically have the opportunity to be renewed in that power later through the Sacrament of Confirmation.  The many choices we face in the world today can be guided by this divine wisdom.  You are invited to witness 20 of our teens ‘be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit’ by Bishop Dennis Madden next Saturday at the 5:00 PM Mass. We pray that they may be blessed by God’s grace and strength.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  We will be collecting gift cards to support the work of Heartly House here in Frederick next weekend at the Social Justice display table in the Narthex (and throughout the rest of the month at the Gift Card table.)  An insert in the bulletin (and our parish website) has a list of requested gifts cards, and the reverse sides lists signs of domestic abuse to watch for.

Tickets are on sale in the narthex for the next three weekends for the Taste of Africa event on Saturday

15 October, which this year is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of our African Faith Community (AFC)!   We give thanks for the blessing of their presence here.
