Social Justice Efforts

Dear Parishioners,

We have a number of social justice efforts and needs coming up that I wanted to highlight for you:

  1.  As you heard at Mass this weekend we have a high school youth working on an Eagle Scout project collecting used soccer gear which will be sent to El Salvador for children and teens who can’t afford their own gear.  Bins will be available in the narthex this weekend for gear donations.
  2. Box of Joy Christmas Gift Ministry organized by Katie’s Ladies is wrapping up distribution of their empty boxes this weekend and will be collecting the filled boxes the weekends of October 29/30 and November 5/6.
  3. People interested in Respect Life issues affecting the pre-born, the mentally and physically disabled, the infirm, the elderly and those incarcerated are encouraged to attend a meeting on Wednesday October 19th at 7:00PM in Drexel Place.
  4. Our second collection the weekend of October 22/23 will be for our partner parish in Haiti.  The funds our parish provide in the past have done so much good (life the generator and solar panels recently installed), but much need still remains at St. Hubert’s.
  5. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Heartly House is seeking gift cards to help women trying to leave abusive relationships.  If you are interested in helping, head to our gift card table to purchase gift cards for Heartly House.
  6. The Frederick Food bank is in particular need of canned carrots, canned fruit, kid’s cereals, side dishes (rice mixes, stuffing, etc) and hygiene products.  Please consider dropping someone in the bin in the narthex this weekend to help.

If you get excited about all of the ways people are trying to help in our community and beyond and you are interested in getting involved in our Social Justice Ministry please join us for our monthly meeting is actually this evening at 7:00PM in the narthex of the church.  You could even come early at 6:00PM to help fill 80 bags of the weekend food donations that go to Yellow Springs Elementary School students who might not have enough food at home to make it through the weekend.
