The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Fr. Keith’s Korner

The Feast of the Epiphany (celebrated after Christmas) highlights the world-wide availability of Jesus to people beyond his Jewish roots, represented by the visit of the three Magi from a far-off land.  This was the inspiration for our narthex flag display, which started when we were still worshipping in the school gym.  That focus continues in our special Epiphany event this year: “Dinner Around the World.”  On that evening we will feature the cuisine, culture and customs of various regions of the world, represented each year by different countries.  I hope you will plan to attend on Saturday 7 January.

Please note that a regional opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent in preparation for the Feast of Christmas is scheduled for Tuesday 20 December at Saint Peter the Apostle Church in Libertytown.  There will be both an afternoon and an evening session, and all the regional priests will be available for confession.  The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also available each Saturday afternoon from 3:30-4:30 PM in our own church.

Many people enjoy prayerfully preparing the scripture readings at home before coming to Mass each weekend.  This can be done individually or as a family. Various books are available for sale on the center narthex table during Advent, containing either the Sunday readings or the weekday readings for the new liturgical year. You’ll notice that there is also a Sunday missal available, which contains the Mass prayers in addition to the scripture readings.

Next weekend, the children of our parish will treat us to a Christmas Pageant and lead us into the spirit of the season of Christ’s birth during our annual “Almost Christmas” Party.  We thank all the children who are participating, as well as Margaret Moos and her other assistants for their dedication in preparing this presentation for our parish. Please remember to bring a gift for Birthright and some cookies to share!
