First Sunday of Lent

Feb 26, 2023

Welcome to the holy season of Lent!  As a faith community, we are reflecting this year on how God is continually reaching out to us, trying to get our attention, and wondering if we are listening (Can you hear me now?)  The season will encourage us to develop our listening skills, while minimizing the distractions of life that make it difficult to listen and hear the Word of God.  How will you structure your Lenten time this year to allow yourself (and your family) to hear God more clearly?

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries at Mass last weekend.  As you can see in the bulletin, we have already reached 21% of our parish goal and a weekly report will keep you updated on our progress.  Please use the mailing you received at home (or an envelope available in the church narthex and parish office) if you were not at Mass to help us reach our goal.

A number of offerings for Adult Faith Formation are listed in the bulletin this week, including a Lenten Bible Study, an Interfaith learning opportunity, and other already-established programs like “That Man is you!”  If you are trying to listen to God more closely during the Lenten season, one of these offering may help you to focus in this way.

We have all seen in the news the devastation following the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. The death toll just keeps rising, and a humanitarian crisis is developing for those who survived.  The 2nd collection next weekend is for Catholic Relief Services who is providing help in this region.  Please make use of this second collection to aid those who are suffering.

A wonderful Mardi Gras celebration took place in McElroy Hall last weekend, and we offer thanks to Sherry Snyder and her dedicated team for all their hard work: Bobbi Makuch, Peg Nathan, Bobbie Speace, Lisa Cucchiara, Leslie Nuse, Pat Warholic, Peggy Waxter, the Knights of Columbus, and all who helped.
