Seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time

Feb 19, 2023

Ash Wednesday occurs this week and the holy season of Lent begins. You are invited to be marked with ashes at Masses at 8:30 AM, 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM that day.  (Please note that we have scheduled an additional evening Mass.) This Lent we will be reflecting on how God is continually reaching out to us, trying to get our attention, and wondering if we are listening (Can you hear me now?)  The season will encourage us to develop our listening skills, while minimizing the distractions of life that make it difficult to listen and hear the Word of God.

As is our tradition, we are providing several prayer booklets for use at home during this special season as well as Lenten Rice Bowls. Also, each Friday evening in Kate’s Cafe our soup and bread simple Lenten meals will be held at 6:15 PM– you bring the bread, we provide the soup– starting this week.  A variety of Lenten prayer experiences will follow in the church at 7:00 PM.  Please note that all Lenten prayer opportunities will be listed on a purple insert in the bulletin each week.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore has scheduled a reflection day for Liturgical Ministers in nearby Mt. Airy in March—so I encourage those who receive an invitation to sign up and attend if you can do so.

The interest rate on our mortgage is adjusted periodically, and so it’s no surprise (in the current financial climate) that it was raised recently from 3.75% to 5.5%.  This results, of course, in a higher monthly payment— but due to the early $30,000 principal payment we were able to make in February, our payment schedule has been shortened by two months, and our new monthly payment was lowered by $200 from what it would have been.  Thanks for your continued generous support of our monthly mortgage collection which enabled us to make the early principal payment– and we are also grateful to our African Faith Community for a recent $1000 mortgage gift.

Fr. Keith
