This weekend we celebrate an amazing reality—that, as a result of our Baptism, the very Spirit of God dwells within each one of us. We can go through our entire lives ignoring the influence of that gift, as many do.  Or, we can use the time we have been given to learn how to become part of God’s plan through the guidance of that Spirit.  When the frightened apostles recognized the presence of God’s Holy Spirit long ago, the faith community of the Church was born… and we are now part of that continuing story twenty centuries later.  Happy Pentecost—and Happy Birthday, Church!  Many thanks to our Knights of Columbus council for preparing our Sunday morning Pentecost breakfast.

As you will see in the bulletin, once again we have surpassed our goal in the Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries!  This is a testimony to our commitment as a parish to the wider mission of the church.  It also provides a wonderful opportunity for us to share with St. Michael’s Indian School (in Arizona) and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, both of whom were founded by our patron Saint Katharine Drexel—as well as support our parish outreach to immigrants. Thanks to all who helped us reach our goal.  We now receive a parish rebate of 40% of every dollar over our goal to support this outreach.

Our next parish trip (5-19 March 2024) is a cruise leaving Buenos Aires (Argentina) and cruising along the eastern side of South America, around the southern tip, and up the western coast to Santiago (Chile), stopping also at the Falkland Islands.  There will be a meeting next Sunday 4 June at 3:30 PM in the church narthex for those who are already registered, and anyone else who would like more information.

On Memorial Day, we remember those who have given their lives in service to their country and to freedom. They have made the ultimate sacrifice.  We also remember in prayer those who grieve their loss.
