The Katharine Konnection

Online Adult Formation Opportunities

Dear Parishioners,

As you enjoy the transition into Summer mode and perhaps a little more downtime I want to encourage you to consider investing some time into your spiritual lives, from the comfort of your own home (or wherever you happen to be vacationing).  Here are some online adult formation opportunities (a couple of free parish run ones and a couple of outside ones) you might enjoy:

Who We Are As Spiritual Beings with John Shea

These zoom sessions will tap into the spiritual wisdom and practices of the Christian tradition and the religious traditions of the world.  The two sessions together are $40. To register and donate with a credit card, CLICK HERE.

June 22, 7:00PM – How Spirit Works

As multidimensional beings, we have accumulated knowledge about how our bodies, minds, and social interactions work. But often we have only a partial and puzzling understanding of how Spirit works in us. In this first session we will reflect on the workings of Spirit, its ways of guiding and influencing.

June 29, 7:00PM – Stories of Spirit

In our second session, we will focus on spiritual storytelling. The faith traditions of the world have created stories that tell us truths about our spiritual nature. These stories are meant to slip past the defenses of our minds and open us to the presence of Spirit. We will tell and reflect on some of these stories.

University of Dayton Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation (VLCFF)

The Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation (VLCFF) is an Internet distance-learning program to support adult faith formation in the Church.  Their next five week session begins on July 10th (registration closes on July 5th).  They have almost 40 different courses lined up for this session.  These include courses of general interest like Introduction to Scripture, Introduction to Prayer, Old Testament, New Testament, Images of Jesus, and Sacraments, but also courses which are geared for volunteers in particular ministries like catechists, music ministers, social justice, and RCIA.  Courses include reading course material, participating in online discussion boards with other participants and the course facilitator, and written reflections on the material covered.  They are a great opportunity for a deeper dive into areas of interest for parishioners.

Since the Archdiocese of Baltimore is a partnering diocese the courses only cost $50 instead of the regular price of $105.  Some courses have will require the purchase of a book or books, but many have all the reading materials available online.  Below is a link to the full list of courses starting up on July 10th.

If you wish to participate you can create an account with the VLCFF and register for the course of your choice.

Centering Prayer

Join us virtually each week for sacred silent time as well as reflective reading and sharing from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM every Sunday. To participate, contact Amy Kulesa at askulesa@gmail.com for Zoom login information.

Scripture Study

Each Thursday at 7:00 PM you can meet with fellow parishioners to discuss the next weekend’s scripture readings. This is a good way to deepen your understanding of the readings before hearing them at Mass. For Zoom log-in info, contact Deacon Kevin Kulesa at skddeacon2@saintdrexel.org.

I hope you have the chance to take advantage of one or more of these opportunities to deepen your faith this summer.

Blessings,

Brian
