In the bulletin this week you will see an insert with information about education in Haiti. For several years now, our Haiti partnership activity has included providing secondary school tuition aid to members of St. Hubert parish, and supporting the lunch program at a nearby elementary school. You can’t imagine how much these gestures of goodwill mean to these children and their families! If you wish to become a partner with children in the poorest nation in the Caribbean, please use the form on the insert to make your donation supporting students for the upcoming academic year. Our Haiti Committee exercises great care and attention in the management and distribution of these funds.
Frederick County has some neighboring pastors bidding farewell to their parishes this month as they head for new assignments on 1 July. Fr. Rob Jaskot is leaving Holy Family (Middletown) for a parish in Anne Arundel County, and Fr. Patrick Carrion is leaving St. Ignatius (Ijamsville) for a challenging multi-parish assignment in Baltimore City (which includes the parish where I grew up). We thank them for their friendship with our parish, their support of our Regional Catholic School, and their priestly ministry to the Catholic community in our area.
Our Environmental Stewardship Committee keeps coming up with new ways for our parish to respond to the call of Pope Francis in his encyclical “Laudato Si.” At all Masses on the weekend of 16/17 September, we will be collecting used pill bottles to share with developing countries where medicine is often dispensed into people’s hands. Re-using the containers saves the environment, so start saving your containers now!
This weekend we have the occasion to say “thank you” to all fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, and foster fathers—and so, for all of your love, and your support, and your care over the years, we say “Happy Father’s Day”!
