Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jul 2, 2023

One of the ways our parish serves the wider community is through our blood drives.  We thank all those who made blood donations and shared the gift of life during our spring Red Cross blood drive on 17 June. We received twenty donations of blood and achieved our goal!  Thanks also to the volunteers who kept the day running smoothly.

Mother Mary Lange (one of the icons in church to the left of St. Katharine) is one step closer to sainthood after Pope Francis last week advanced her cause from a “servant of God” to a “venerable”.  Lange is a black religious sister who founded the first African American order for women in the U.S. in Baltimore in 1829.

It is so impressive to see the results of your generosity this year, as we have now reached 111% of our parish goal in the Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries.  Last weekend, a letter from Archbishop Lori expressing his gratitude was reprinted in the bulletin.  Because we receive a rebate of 40% of every dollar over our goal, our designated recipients (St. Michael Indian School, the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, and our parish outreach to immigrants) will be especially blessed this year by your generosity.

Registration for our core Faith Formation programs for next fall is now underway, and you can register for our Faith Formation programs on our parish website. Early registration helps our staff order materials and recruit sufficient catechists.  If you can volunteer as a catechist, we can always use your help!

July 4th is celebrated annually in our country as

“Independence Day”, and we remember the freedom we enjoy as Americans. The freedom of many of our fellow human beings is threatened in some places by terrorists, by oppressive governments, by long-standing conflict, or by gangs. Places like Ukraine, Sudan, and Haiti come to mind.  Let us pray this week that the countries of the world can collaboratively find a way to help extend and preserve the freedom of all God’s children.

Fr. Keith
