Much of our worship experience involves music, and there is a growing body of research that points to the physical and mental health benefits of singing with others.  A recent “Sing With Us” study associated group singing to reduced stress hormones and increased cytokines (proteins that can boost the body’s ability to fight serious illness).  Other studies have linked singing with lessened anxiety, stimulated memory (for those with dementia), increased lung capacity, and an easing of postpartum depression.  And, according to a study sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, singing has numerous health benefits for older adults including fewer falls and doctor visits, as well as better social connections and cognitive function.  And so, “he who sings” not only prays twice, but improves his physical-mental health!

Bring your lawn chair or blanket for our final “Concert on the Plaza” which will take place next Saturday evening featuring music by “Rewind”.  Food and drink will be available for purchase, so plan to stay after the 5:00 PM Mass for a relaxing evening with your fellow parishioners.

In order for our parish life to flourish, we have hundreds of people involved in various ministries, and new volunteers are always welcome. We are presently looking for more catechists (for Foundations of Faith), as well as new members for our Video Ministry and leaders for our Sunday morning Children’s Ministries.  Please respond to the bulletin invitations if you feel that God is calling you to become involved in one of these ministries at this time.

On Tuesday this week (15 August) we celebrate the feast of the Assumption as a holyday of obligation, and so I look forward to worshipping with you that day at either 8:30 AM or 7:00 PM Mass.  (Please note that the usual 9:15 AM weekday Mass will not be celebrated.)  This annual holyday is always a reminder for us that summer is winding down…
