The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Fr. Keith’s Korner

As more people return to receiving communion from the cup, we find ourselves in need of more Eucharistic Ministers as we rebuild our corps from the time of Covid restrictions (when the practice was restricted.)  If you can serve our faith community in this way, please contact Dolan Smeak (information in the bulletin) to register for a training session which is scheduled for Thursday 21 September.

Our partner-parish relationship with St. Hubert parish in Ennery, Haiti is now in its tenth year, and continues to grow in scope as we become aware of more possibilities for interaction.  Included in the bulletin this week is a recent thank you note from Fr. Faubert, which describes both their appreciation for our support, and acknowledgement of Haiti’s struggles as a country at this time.  Many thanks to Tom Kloc and our dedicated Haiti Committee for their faithful and creative management of this parish partnership.

The Sanctuary of Hope ministry here in our parish is designed to make the church a “sanctuary” (or a safe place) to start conversations regarding mental health.  Our next 8-week session will be starting this week, and you can register on-line on our parish website.  This group offers spiritual support and companionship in what can be a challenging aspect of life’s journey.

Last weekend I announced that we had received $977.50 to be sent through Catholic Charities Hawaii to aid wildfire victims in Maui—but I spoke too soon.  Donations have continued to come into our office, and this week I signed a check for $3,162.25 instead.  Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing with those who are in need!

The Labor Day holiday is such a beacon for change in our annual ritual as we adjust to the autumn routine.  We encourage you to register for our Faith Formation programs on our website as soon as possible— and to sign up for our annual parish picnic which takes place at Staley Park next weekend.
