Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sep 24, 2023

Jim Johnson (a parishioner of St. Timothy in Walkersville) has been in training at our parish as part of his preparation to be ordained a deacon for the Archdiocese of Baltimore at the cathedral in Baltimore next Saturday 30 September.  He will serve as a deacon and preach at all the Masses here on the weekend of 14/15 October.  Please keep him in your prayers as he prepares for his ordination.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  We will be collecting gift cards to support the work of Heartly House here in Frederick next weekend at the Social Justice display table in the narthex (and throughout the rest of the month at the Gift Card table.)  An insert in the bulletin (and on our parish website) has a list of requested gifts cards, and the reverse sides lists signs of domestic abuse to watch for.

Fr. James Martin SJ is a well-known author of the book “Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBTQ Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity.”

He has agreed to meet with parishioners from our area via ZOOM this Monday evening at 7:00 PM for an evening of discussion and reflection.  You may join the session in person in church (followed by refreshments), or remotely at home by using the Zoom link in the bulletin.  This will be a good opportunity to learn more about a topic that is challenging for many.

Each Saturday morning at 6:30 AM a group of men gather in our church for the “That Man is You” program to grow in their relationship with God, the Church, and their family.  Consider joining the new season of spiritual growth just starting by scanning the QR code found in the bulletin this weekend.

St. Peter the Apostle (our neighboring parish in Libertytown) is celebrating the 200th Anniversary of their founding this weekend.  Our parish is an “infant” parish in comparison, and so we offer congratulations and prayers to our fellow Catholics on this milestone!

Fr. Keith
