The Katharine Konnection

Fr. Keith’s Korner

Fr. Keith’s Korner –

Welcome to the holy season of Lent! Our theme this year is “It’s a gift” and we will be reflecting on the many gifts we are blessed with in this life, and the many gifts that come to us through Jesus, most especially the gift of salvation. The season will encourage us to reflect on how we might better show our gratitude to God for being gifted in these ways.

Our suggested Lenten action will be focused on the gift of this created world, our common home. We will explore ways that we can thank God for the gift of his creation, especially by taking better care of our world. Your household is invited to make use of the Lenten pledge form that is available on the parish website (and at the Welcome Center). Just click on the link and commit to ways you can make a difference. Every week on the purple insert, we will be offered different ways we can learn to treasure, protect, and nurture the gift of the earth.  After all, “It’s a gift!”

The winter training session for new altar servers is scheduled for Saturday 2 March in the nave of the church.  I hope that parents will encourage young people in grades 5-12 to serve their faith community in this way.  Please pre-register for this training using the information listed elsewhere in the bulletin.  We can always use more altar servers!

The Catholic Advocacy Network (CAN) is an easy way for you to get involved in the work of the Maryland General Assembly during their 2024 session over the next six weeks.  The network sends you e-mail alerts when legislation is pending, and even drafts a suggested response for you (which you can modify to reflect your opinion) to send to your representatives.  You can sign up on-line using the information provided elsewhere in this bulletin.

The Frederick 40 Days for Life prayer campaign continues through 24 March.  Our parish takes part on Thursday afternoons, and so please use the contact info in the bulletin to participate in this witness to life.
