Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Feb 4, 2024

Next weekend we join the national observance of World Marriage Day, and a special blessing of all married couples will occur at each Mass.  Please plan to attend the same Mass with your spouse to receive this blessing.  If you are celebrating a special 5-year wedding anniversary during 2024, please return the form in the bulletin (or on our website) to the parish office by this Monday.

Several people have asked me what I read during my time away in January.  I read several good novels (all of which I recommend), and each of them had something to do with faith or religion: “The Lincoln Highway” by Amor Towles, “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus, and “The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell” by Robert Dugoni.  I usually include some serious theology, but this time I just needed to chill.

Each winter we collect items for the Emergency Shelter here in Frederick, and so you will find needed items listed on our parish website and on a bulletin insert this weekend.  Donations may be dropped at the narthex Gift Card Table any week during the month of February.  Your caring is very much appreciated.

Concerning our Memorial Garden, we are still waiting for a final building permit from the City of Frederick, and are soon to make a final decision on the company that will do the construction.  Several items still remain to be sponsored (one statue, several granite benches, and labyrinth paver sections), so use the “Memorial Garden” button on our website to make your donation in memory of a loved one at this time.

Tens of thousands of Catholics are expected to gather in Indianapolis this summer from 17-21 July 2024 for the National Eucharistic Congress. The Archdiocese of Baltimore is organizing a pilgrimage group to attend, and the package includes transportation and lodging. For more information, refer to the bulletin insert this week, or go to the Archdiocesan website at: www.archbalt.org.
