Fifth Sunday of Easter

Apr 28, 2024

This Sunday is the 45th anniversary of my priestly ordination on 28 April 1979.  I am pleased to honor that milestone by celebrating the Eucharist with a community close to my heart—a faith community I have seen grow and develop over the years as the Body of Christ in the world today.  It’s amazing for me to think that I have spent over half of those 45 years leading the community of St. Katharine Drexel—and satisfying to realize all that God has accomplished here as we have worked together “in realization of the Kingdom of God.”  Thank you for the support I have received from you as your pastor!

Each year during Lent, all parish households are invited to participate in the Lenten Rice Bowl program, which supports the work and ministry of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) around the world.  This year CRS received a total of $2610 from our parish, and we thank the eighty-two families who observed Lent this year at home by remembering the poor of many nations in a special way at mealtime.

Our Knights of Columbus council coordinated our Friday evening Lenten “soup and bread” dinners, and will be cooking for the upcoming Pentecost breakfast between the Sunday morning Masses on 19 May—so they are often serving our parish in various ways (with help from our Katie’s Ladies group).  Please pick up your tickets for the Pentecost breakfast after Mass during the first two weekends in May.  And if you’re interested in joining the Knights of Columbus, they will be having an information table in the narthex several times over the next few months.

If you are an adult Catholic who has never been confirmed, we will be offering preparation sessions for the Sacrament of Confirmation during the month of May, with the celebration of the Sacrament on 19 May at the cathedral in Baltimore.  The session dates are listed in the bulletin this weekend.  Please contact Brian McCrohan on our staff for more information.
