Second Sunday of Easter

Apr 7, 2024

As we continue the 50-day celebration of the Easter season, we are treated to events at Mass that we fasted from during the season of Lent.  Please rejoice with me as we celebrate special occasions in the life of our parish families, such as baptisms and first communions.  It is clearly a joyful time in the life of many of our parishioners as they come into fuller union with Christ through the Sacraments.

We have an interesting parish Easter retreat scheduled for Saturday 20 April from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM which I encourage you to consider attending.  It is entitled “From the Heart of Saint Katharine Drexel” and will be led by Sr. Lynn Marie Ralph, a member of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament (the order founded by Saint Katharine Drexel).  She will help us to understand more about the life of our patron Saint, and how we can live out her mission here in this parish named in her honor.  I hope to see you there!

We count on the Easter collection to help balance the budget at this point in the fiscal year, so thanks so much for your generosity at Easter—which surpassed last Easter!  I’m also so grateful for your faithful support of the monthly mortgage collection which is usually very close to handling our monthly payment. Unfortunately, with a variable rate loan, our interest rate is the highest it has ever been, and we have come up short several months recently.  Thanks for any extra help you can provide until the Fed lowers the rate (which is predicted to occur sometime in 2024).

Some parishioners seem unaware that we have a parish library in the narthex area across from the Brockway Room.  Our library has an extensive selection of theological books organized into various categories such as scripture, saints, spirituality, and morality.  You can also delve into the areas of church history, liturgy, and sacraments. Perhaps it is time for you to gain some depth in your theological thought process.  Stop by before or after any weekend Mass.
