Pentecost Sunday

May 19, 2024

This weekend we celebrate an amazing reality—that, as a result of our Baptism and Confirmation, the very Spirit of God dwells within each one of us. We can go through our entire lives ignoring the influence of that gift, as many do.  Or, we can use the time we have been given to learn how to become part of God’s plan through the guidance of that Spirit.  When the frightened apostles recognized the presence of God’s Holy Spirit long ago, the faith community of the Church was born… and we are now part of that continuing story twenty centuries later.  Happy Pentecost—and Happy Birthday, Church!  Many thanks to our Knights of Columbus council for preparing our Sunday morning Pentecost breakfast.

We have a tradition of offering a Blessing of Expectant Parents twice during the course of each year.  Please alert family members and friends who may want to participate in this special blessing at the

11:00 AM Mass on Sunday 2 June—and register with pastoral associate Brian McCrohan (as indicated in an announcement in the bulletin).

Many thanks to our Environmental Stewardship Ministry for organizing another Spring Recycling event this year at the end of April.  You’ll see a full report on a bulletin insert this week, but it is amazing to realize that we collected 2.5 tons of paper and 1800 pounds of textiles.  These are all materials that are recycled… and so kept out of the trash.   Thanks to everyone who helped that day!

In the space between the large parking lot and the school building, you can see that construction continues on our new Memorial Garden.  Later this week, five large granite columbaria will be delivered and lifted into place. Following that, the labyrinth will be constructed, and the paths will be paved, so that landscaping can begin.  We are grateful to parishioner Pat Wilson who has been regularly on-site managing this project for us and doing a great job!
