African Faith Community

FAITH · COMMUNITY · CULTURE

A vibrant community of faith within our parish family — gathered in prayer, rooted in tradition, and open to all.

A Community Within a Community

The African Faith Community of Saint Katharine Drexel was organized by our parishioners, who are originally Africans, to gather in faith, prayer, and mutual support — and to welcome new African immigrant families into our parish with open arms.

The AFC brings a richness to parish life that extends well beyond this community within community gatherings. On special occasions the AFC enriches our Sunday Liturgy through music, joyful celebration, and the occasional gospel procession up the aisle — a beautiful expression of faith and culture that lifts the entire congregation.

The AFC annually hosts the Taste of Africa Dinner. It is one of the most beloved events on the parish calendar — a celebration of African cuisine, culture, and community that draws parishioners from across SKD together around a shared table of love in faith.

All Are Welcome

The African Faith Community welcomes anyone from the parish who feels called to share in these gatherings, celebrations, and mission. You don’t have to be African to belong — just willing to show up with an open heart.

The AFC gathers twice monthly on Sunday afternoons. Watch the bulletin for specific dates and times, or reach out to the contact below for more information.

For more information about the African Faith Community — gatherings, events, or how to get involved — reach out to the parish office and we'll connect you with AFC leadership.

Taste of Africa

Each fall the African Faith Community hosts our annual Taste of Africa dinner — an evening of authentic African cuisine, music, and fellowship open to the entire parish. Proceeds support both the activities of the AFC and the Parish Mortgage Fund. It’s one of the most joyful evenings of the year and not to be missed.

Held annually each fall — watch the bulletin and parish calendar for this year's date.

All parishioners and their guests — the more the merrier!
