SKD Support Groups

Saint Katharine Drexel Parish assists the organization of a few support groups for our parish community.  If you need assistance or would like more information on these support groups, please contact Theresa Anderson theresa.anderson@saintdrexel.org.

Low Vision Support Group

If you are dealing with increased vision loss related to a disease or the aging process, join us at Saint Katharine Drexel Church in the Brockway Room (on the 2nd Tuesday of the month) at 10:15 AM. This support group will be facilitated by Marilynn Ward-Tluszcz from the Office for Blindness and Vision Services. You will learn about available resources, learn from others who are dealing with vision loss, and share the journey with each other. For further information and to sign-up, please contact Edi Stewart -301-815-5403, or edistewart80@gmail.com.

Sanctuary of Hope

The Sanctuary of Hope Ministry’s purpose is to make the church a “sanctuary”, a safe place to start conversations regarding mental health. Over the course of 10 sessions, we aim to educate and enlighten participants by providing information developed by mental health professionals, theologians, and people with lived experience and offer prayerful reflection and intercession for spiritual support and companionship.

The sessions will be held in the Brockway Room from 7:00 to 8:30 PM
The minimum participant age is eighteen. We will be using St. Dymphna’s Playbook to guide our discussion.

Dates:

  • JAN 16 & 30:  DEPRESSION
  • FEB 13 & 27:  ANXIETY
  • MAR 12 & 26:  TRAUMA
  • APR 16 & 30:  RELATIONSHIPS
  • MAY 14 & 28:  GRIEF

LGBTQ Support Group

Do you have a loved one who identifies as LGBTQ? Are you struggling to help them feel welcome and loved? Are you wrestling with your own feelings and reactions? Would you like to share your experience and learn from others walking in your path? A new support group “Together In Hope” is forming in September to offer a safe space for sharing, prayer, mutual support and learning together. If you are interested in joining, please contact Laura Weber (240-409-4801 or webersfour@comcast.net).
