Stewardship at Saint Katharine Drexel

FAITHFUL. INTENTIONAL. JOYFUL.
Stewardship is a journey we take together as disciples of Jesus — guided by gratitude, prayer, and a desire to place God at the center of our lives.

Hearts Open to Give

At Saint Katharine Drexel, we believe that stewardship is more than a financial act — it is a way of life rooted in gratitude for all God has entrusted to us. Our families, our homes, our work, and the abundance God provides each day are all gifts from Him.

As disciples of Jesus, we are invited to use well what God has entrusted to us — giving generously, joyfully, and selflessly in response to His love. Through prayerful reflection and intentional planning, we grow together as faithful stewards who honor God not only with our hearts, but with all He has given us.

To guide that journey, we reflect on what we call the 5 P’s of Financial Stewardship — five principles that help us grow in gratitude and generosity as a community of faith.

A Journey of Gratitude and Generosity

Explore each principle below to deepen your understanding of faithful stewardship.

Prayer — The Heart of Stewardship

In prayer, God invites us to reflect on all He has entrusted to us. It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives — our families, our homes, our work, and the abundance God provides each day. When we pray, we are reminded that all we have comes from Him, and gratitude opens our hearts to give freely and joyfully.

We also invite you to pray for guidance in your stewardship. Ask God to show you how to manage His gifts wisely, to grow in generosity, and to use your resources to bless others. Through prayer, we can trust His wisdom in every decision and take steps toward being faithful, joyful stewards — honoring God not only with our hearts but with all He has given us.

Prayer of Gratitude

Dear God, we thank You for the countless blessings You have poured into our lives. We are grateful for Your provision, Your love, and Your faithfulness each day. Lord, guide us to be faithful stewards of all You have entrusted to us. Help us to give generously, joyfully, and selflessly, using our resources to honor You and bless others. Teach us to trust in Your wisdom, to plan with care, and to put You first in all we do. We offer this prayer with thankful hearts, seeking to glorify You in every choice, every gift, and every act of stewardship. Amen.

Priority — Giving First to God

Putting God first in our giving is a powerful way to honor Him and recognize that everything we have is a gift from God. When we prioritize our stewardship, we make an intentional choice to place God at the center of our hearts and our lives, offering back a portion of the blessings He has entrusted to us.

Priority giving is more than a financial act — it’s a statement of faith. By giving first to God, we participate in His work through our parish and beyond. Our gifts help sustain sacramental preparation programs, parish ministries, social outreach initiatives, and support for those in need in our community and around the world.

When we give with God as our first priority, we cultivate hearts of generosity, trust, and gratitude. Our offerings become a joyful response to His love, making God the center of our lives and allowing His blessings to flow through us to others.

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.” — Luke 6:38

“A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” — Leviticus 27:30

Plan & Percentage — Stewardship in Action

Sacrificial stewardship is rooted in faith. After prayerfully thanking God for all He has given us, we plan our giving from our total income, placing God first to reflect His priority in our lives.

Compared to other faiths, Catholics tend to give substantially less — about 1% of their income. Our patterns of giving often come from habit or circumstance. We invite you to think differently about stewardship by adopting a percentage-based approach.

The table below shows how different percentages of income translate into weekly offertory amounts, helping you see the impact of your generosity. Even small increases can make your giving more intentional, sacramental, and reflective of gratitude for all of God’s gifts.

Annual Income 2% 3% 4% 5%
$30,000 $12 $17 $23 $29
$50,000 $19 $29 $38 $48
$75,000 $29 $43 $58 $72
$100,000 $38 $58 $77 $96
$150,000 $58 $87 $115 $144

Weekly offertory amounts shown above are approximate.

Progress — Stewardship is a Journey

Stewardship is a journey, not a one-time decision. Making progress in stewardship often means building habits — like reviewing our giving each year and prayerfully considering an increase, especially as God blesses us with raises or changes in income. Even small, steady steps forward can have a big impact over time.

We invite each household to take on the challenge of making annual increases in percentage giving, moving towards sacrificial stewardship that reflects both gratitude and trust in God.

One of the most consistent ways to practice stewardship is through online giving. ParishSOFT makes it easy to set up recurring gifts, ensuring that your support of our parish remains steady and intentional. As we continue this journey together, may we all take the next faithful step in becoming joyful, generous stewards of God’s abundant gifts.

Stewardship Sunday

Each year, Saint Katharine Drexel celebrates Stewardship Sunday — a joyful gathering of our parish family to give thanks for God’s abundant blessings and renew our commitment to sharing those blessings with our church family and the wider community.

Held after every Mass on our designated weekend, Stewardship Sunday is a time to celebrate together, connect with staff and volunteers, and explore ways to grow as faithful stewards. Food, fellowship, and community await.

Watch for announcements in the bulletin and on the parish calendar for this year’s dates.
